It was a night of country, pop, and….rock and roll? The Country Music Television (CMT) Awards was a spectacular night of genre mixing on June 5th in Nashville, Tennessee. Crossing genres, the show opened with Jason Aldean and Lenny Kravitz to closing with Nelly and Florida Georgia Line. But it was not only the music that caused fervor in the audience; those that attended also glittered, sparkled, and broke those old stereotypes that country is “boring.”
Carrie Underwood, winner of American Idol Season Four, was the big winner of the night, not only awards-wise but style-wise as well. While most crooners took to the purple carpet in cocktails and minis, Carrie bedazzled us in a sexy teal colored tulle jacket and crepe shorts from Edition by Georges Chakra. The sheer detailing in the shoulders and back gave way to sequins, and the shorts and top featured an interesting geometric pattern. It was a surprising choice to show off her legs and a bit of casualness - since we are used to seeing Carrie glow in her signature flowing frocks. However, the winner of top honor (Video of the Year for “Blown Away”) didn’t forget her trademark face framing her curly locks, glossy pout, and full lashes to stay looking elegant and youthful. Carrie definitely doesn’t look 30 here! Black peep-toe pumps and a Swarovski clutch added to our conclusion that Carrie Underwood is our forever country beauty queen.
Another winner was 29 year old country music artist Jana Kramer. She looked stunning and confident in a seemingly lingerie inspired Pavoni gown. The nude coloring and sheer, black lace complements her bronze skin tone and auburn hair. Long-sleeved and slightly off-shouldered, the sheer dress hugs her curves in all the right places and puts this bride-to-be at the top of our best-dressed list of the night. Jana’s Pavoni by Mikael D. Collection was dark and dramatic, not quite to be expected at the CMT Awards, which made this year’s purple carpet all the more fun to watch.
Meanwhile, Dancing with the Stars singer Kellie Pickler had us at hello in her show-stopping pink sequined dress by Jean Fares. Originally the sexy body hugging pink sequined dress was meant for the Academy of Country Music Awards in May, but Kellie missed that for her appearance on DWTS. Her love for the dress was apparent as she posed smiling gracefully, but we have some qualms about the gown. The fully sequined, open-back, floor-length gown was apparently comfortable according to Kellie but the front involves a piece of extra fabric resembling a kangaroo pouch. Cleavage, check. Side boob, check. But, kangaroo pouch? Really, now. If someone could take off that protruding detail, Kellie could shine all the better in her well-cleavage-d glory. At least the 27 year old former American Idol contestant looks radiant and long in this very shiny dress.
